Dear Supporters,
AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP YOURSELF AND SOCIETY
Participation in a Research Study on Mobile/Office Based MRI
Attention Brain Injury Survivors
Background
Those of you who know us at the Foundation, read our blog or our Constant Contact and Facebook posts know that I am a staunch advocate for stroke survivor participation in medical and clinical research. Over the 25+ years since I suffered my stroke, I have spent countless hours participating in various academic and medical clinical trials which align with the Stroke Recovery Foundation’s mission of stroke success.
By participating in these studies, you have the benefit of becoming involved with the newest technology, techniques, and equipment at no cost. And you also have the psychic pleasure of knowing that your efforts could well enhance society, and many other people’s lives, going forward. And though our efforts have been focused on stroke, the same can be said for all diseases and maladies.
Research Study
We have been retained to assist a San Francisco based early-stage company who is active in the mobile/office MR field. In the study, the company is comparing scan results using their mobile scan system with results using a conventional MR scanner. As a participant you may have the opportunity to have your scans sent to your physicians at no cost.
This initiative, when it comes to fruition as planned, will change the MR space by dramatically compressing the time that a patient takes to get an MRI diagnosis. Since rapid diagnosis time is of the essence with all diseases, most particularly stroke where “Time is Brain”, this can be a gamechanger for many millions of people.
Research Study Recruitment
We are looking for paid volunteers who have suffered a brain injury or pathology that can be detected on an MRI scan. This includes survivors who have suffered a stroke, a traumatic brain injury, a brain tumor or cyst, a brain hemorrhage or hydrocephalus. While I realize that our focus has been stroke there may be people you know who have suffered any of the above brain injuries who might also be interested in participation. Your friends and family, work friends or employees, your neighbor’s, Facebook friends, whomever. Please spread the word. All are welcome!
Recruiting Process
I will be conducting the initial screening as well as answering any initial questions you may have. That will be followed by a conversation with one of our Doctors who will give you more details about the study and answer any additional questions you may have.
Criteria
To be considered for participation you:
Are at least 18 years of age,
Are willing to travel to San Francisco where the study takes place,
Be willing to undergo 2 Brain MRI’s, one using the company’s mobile equipment, and the other using conventional equipment.
Are willing to spend 1-2 hours at our office in San Francisco for a scan,
Are willing to spend 1-2 hours at the UCSF Mission Bay campus for the second scan.
Seamless Experience and All Paid Travel Arrangements
The company’s objective is to make your participation experience as seamless as possible. As such, it will pay for, and make all travel arrangements involved in the study including air and lodging. Also, you might want to stay a day or two to enjoy the San Francisco area.
Initial Steps
Please contact me at the email which is below my name in blue to arrange a mutually convenient time to hold a conversation regarding your possible study participation. I will answer any questions and further discuss the study as well as give you information about the company behind this research.
If it appears that you are interested, and meet the criteria, we will arrange for a second conversation, this time with one of the company’s Doctors. If after this second conversation your participation is a “go” another of our team members will arrange your paid travel.
Wrap-Up
Imagine a world where the speed of brain injury medical diagnosis increases because of this new technology equipment. That is the company’s game changing mission – to have more brain injury survivors diagnosed quickly so that appropriate treatment can be initiated. They are currently working with the FDA to complete the work required to obtain approvals, of which this study is an important part. Upon going through the approval process, marketing efforts will begin.
So many survivors ask me how they can help- here is an opportunity! What a wonderful way to give back to society by participating in this initiative!
Thank you for your attention.
